So the results from the dye test are that Joseph has what is called reflux. This is where his little esophogas has a hard time keeping things (like stomach acid) down. When stomach acid comes up his little body naturally stops breathing. But Joseph has been doing tons better! He has been spitting up and dealing with just fine.
Today is a beautiful day in boise, Idaho! The sun is shining and the Josephs are blooming! We just got back from the hospital and our cute little boy is doing great! Our favorite part was finding that his iv was gone! They took it off at 6am this morning and at around noon his blood sugar was at a 72! Last night when we left he was a little yellow but he looked much pinker today.
He ate a ton! We were so proud of him and he only spit up a little bit and it wasn't a problem at all. Usually after feeding him he will go right to sleep but this time he was awake with us for quite a while after feeding before he finally fell asleep listening to daddy sing him songs from the band "They Might Be Giants." It's his favorite band so far.
We talked to the doctor and he said that they want him to have a one or two more days at least to make sure his blood sugar stays good and to make sure he is gaining weight ok. They also want to make sure he is feeding well. We are greatful that they are taking these precautions. The doctor said that it is always better to keep him in the nicu an extra day than for us to take him home and have to bring him back. As far as the reflux goes the doctor said that it is normal and that they are not too worried about it. They want to keep watching him to make sure he doesn't have anymore dusky spells but it has been over 24 hours since the last spell so we are confident that he is working it out and learning how to use his body.
